meet Sam

the friendly face behind the images

Hello! I’m Sam. I photograph weddings in Newcastle, Sydney & around Australia. When i’m not behind my camera or in the studio, you’re likely to find me with my wife at the beach, hopefully eating some form of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, & playing 90’s RnB tunes. A few fun facts about me; I recently got married in March 2018 to beautiful Anna; my soft hearted, 6ft tall, brunette, floral & pilates lover (@floralsbyanna). I’m a believer that life is best lived when you’re kind to people, think positively, always do your best & look after others.

Let the people speak ..

image of bride & groom on their wedding day in newcastle city

I have been a bridesmaid 4 times so have been familiar with wedding photographers; their manners, the quality of the work, and the resulting photos, and I am absolutely stoked with Sam's. Prior to our wedding, he was quick in responding to emails, he even had a notebook with all the points we'd asked for! On the day, he was punctual, and honestly I don’t even remember seeing him at the ceremony, so he was well positioned without impacting the ceremony at all. He had sussed out the location beforehand and had several amazing locations for us to have photos at. One less thing for us to worry about! And he was absolutely a delight, very friendly in positioning us for the photos, and the comfortableness we felt with him shows in the end results. He had roughly 500 photos for us, and I adore every single one. He got them to us a day shy of 4 weeks. We selected the "Honeymoon Highlights" and they were sent to us 11am the next day! If you've read this far, hope I have you convinced. Your day and its memories are very, VERY safe in Sam's hands.

“Sam is amazing! You need him for your wedding!!! Sam did both our engagement and wedding photography and we were so happy with the photos! He has such a professional, friendly and easy going presence which is very appreciated if you are a stress head like me. He is a great communicator and always replied promptly to every message. I was so excited to receive my wedding photos and I was not disappointed. But what blew me away was the extra care and attention that Sam put into the packaging and presentation of our photos. Thank you Sam you're the best!”

“From the very first search looking for a photographer I just knew Sam would be the one. His passion for his work shines through every shot, his attention to detail is unbeatable and his energy is contagious. We first met Sam for a quick meet and greet to see if he was the real deal and everything just clicked into place. Our ideas came together perfectly. Sam travelled to Sydney for our sneaky engagement shoot in Luna Park and managed to make the most camera shy couple feel at ease. Our photos came back within weeks and we couldn't have been more thrilled. Again, Sam and travelled to Sydney for our wedding and we still can't believe how happy we are with the results. The professionalism, the ease at what he does, the way he captured moments you don't even realise are happening. Just wow. Everything was done to perfection. If you're looking for a photographer who will capture authentic moments and create magic looking through the lens, this is your guy. Book him now!”

“We had Samuel Jacob Photography shoot our engagement photo’s and wedding photo’s. He is incredible to work with, very easy going with an amazing eye, particularly for natural scenery that creates stunning backdrops for important memories. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in getting exceptional photos at a reasonable price.”

“Sam was our wedding photographer and delivered above and beyond what we could have hoped! He was an absolute professional to work with and made the photo shoot so enjoyable and relaxed. We were completely overwhelmed with how beautiful our photos were and how easy the experience was. Would highly recommend.”

“Samuel Jacob was our wedding photographer in February 2018 at the Blue Mountains. We could not have asked for a better photographer! On the day he was like a fly on the wall, he captured the natural moments but also directed us to the positions that were just magical to capture. As I looked through the photos, tears came to my eyes because it was like reliving the best day of my life. Thank you so much Sam!

sam, your friend behind the cam.

I’m a creative, life loving, ocean swimming, slightly awkward, regularly laughing, Novocastrian who loves people and his job passionately. I kind of feel like i’m a mix between a computer nerd & a hippie. I’m a massive foodie; I actually get excited about food. I love sport & exercise of all kinds. I’m known for laughing on the regular. When I find something funny, anyone in the 300 meter proximity will know. I’m apart of a big creative family with five siblings; two girls & four of us boys. In the mix are two wedding cinematographers (see here), a fashion designer, a Matilda’s soccer player & now womens coach, and an architect in Tasmania.

My obsession is capturing moments with genuine emotion. I do this by creating a comfortable and relaxed environment where everyone is totally free to be themselves. Most of all, I want every couple to have stunning and tasteful photographs that they can look back on throughout their marriage. Oh, and I want you to look bloody good!

I especially love my work because I really value marriage. What a beautiful event where two human beings commit to loving the other no matter what. I think that is pretty incredible & very rewarding to be apart of. My beautiful wife Anna & I made the unbreakable vows (sneaky harry potter reference) to other in March 2018 and I gotta tell ya.. Being married is the best! You have alot to look forward to, from your engagement & wedding, as well as the life you can continue building together afterward!

How it all started…

I was studying at university, when I began to realise I was in the wrong area. Creativity & style was bursting out of me, and for the first time in my life, I had no outlet. I imagined in life that I was supposed to have a career and then hobbies, or creative outlets on the side. Well, that wasn’t going to happen (classic Gen Y’er). I submitted my last assignment for the year, and began a creative journey that lead me to where I am today; making people happy by capturing the most beautiful days of their lives!

Let’s back up a little bit.. I started taking photo’s totally for my own enjoyment. On holidays, of my girlfriend (now wife). Eventually people I knew started asking me if I would be their wedding photographer. I said no at least three times. Someones wedding was a scary place to practice. But when they would get their images back, I would think to myself, “I could have done that.. and I actually would have done a few things differently. I should have said yes!”. I decided it was time! I began photographing weddings at twenty years old, I fell in love & I haven’t looked back!

I can’t wait to be apart of your journey, and capture the beauty of your wedding day! | Sam
